Finding your way
As a filmmaker, two things are very important: making films, obtaining funding and showing the film to the rest of the world out there! Around the globe there are so many great festivals and events that it is easy to lose track of what is happening. Among everything that is going on, it can be difficult to realistically assess which festival is the right one for your film.
Because of that CineSud Magazine started publishing monthly articles with the most interesting and promising international film festivals that you can submit to the following months. Next to that we give an overview of interesting funding options in the heart of the Netherlands, Belgium as well as Germany.

Film Fest Gent
Submission deadline: August 1
Festival dates: October 8 - October 18
For its 46th edition Film Fest Gent 2019 is bringing the Spanish cinematographic sphere to Ghent, traditionally with much emphasis on soundtracks. Actress Rossy de Palma, the muse of one of the most famous Spanish directors - Pedro Almodóvar – is the face of the campaign. [Read more]
SmartFone Flick Fest
Submission deadline: August 1
Festival dates: September 14 - September 15
SmartFone Flick Fest is Australia’s international smartphone film festival for filmmakers of all ages. It is a world-wide festival open to anyone with a smartphone or tablet and a great idea for a short film. SF3 provides a platform for budding, emerging and professional filmmakers to bring their ideas to life and have their films seen by a global audience, without the need for lots of fancy equipment or a big budget. Rome Film Fest
Submission deadline: August 4
Festival dates: November 7 - November 10
The 14th Rome Film Fest will be held at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and in other venues throughout the city which has been the heart of the Rome Film Fest since 2006 with the red carpet and the screening rooms. [Read more]
Sundance Film Festival
Submission deadline: August 5
Festival dates: January 23 - February 2
Every winter in Utah, the Sundance Film Festival becomes the ultimate gathering of original storytellers and audiences seeking new voices and fresh perspectives. The annual program includes dramatic and documentary features and short films; series and episodic content; and New Frontier, showcasing emerging media in the form of multimedia installations, performances, and films. Leuven International Short Film Festival
Submission deadline: August 15
Festival dates: November 30 - December 7
Leuven International Short Film Festival is the yearly place to be in December for film lovers and professionals in Belgium and abroad. As a European Film Award Qualifying as well as Academy Award Qualifying festival it is the main Belgian gateway to the most renowned award ceremonies worldwide. [Read more]
Geneva International Film Festival
Submission deadline: August 20
Festival dates: October 1 - November 10
Since its inception in 1995, Geneva International Film Festival (GIFF) has been supporting the role of independent authors in creative processes. At the crossroads of genres and disciplines, a place to experiment, get together and celebrate, the Festival showcases a program featuring films, TV series and digital arts for ten days every year.
